@ HG: Yes, it seems that the problem is 100% solved. Thank you very much.
I agree with your 2) and 3), especially 3). Unfortunately I never made any Nightrider so far. This because I don't like leaper-runners which are difficult to predict on board. But I might do one, one day, as well as the Grasshopper.
I would add another criteria: the 3D piece which is represented should be realistically 3D-printable and not too fragile.
@Bob: which viewer or software do you use to get those images? Blender? or something else, maybe more friendly?
@ Fergus: I have made images of some of my 3D pieces in blue on black background. I wished to upload the images but I lack space to do it. So I wanted to create a fake page named "Cazaux Vault" to get some room where to upload but I get this message:
"As a veteran contributor with nine or more submissions published so far, you are limited to submitting nine of your games for review and publication at a time. If you would like to post more, cooperate with the editors to get your submissions accepted, or revert something to a work-in-progress and submit something else."
What is this? I don't have 9 games in waiting!?
Does that mean I cannot create any new page?
Here the images you asked Fergus. The blue might be too saturated.
@Bob: I have used this on-line viewer which is working very nice. I recommend, you can easily change the background, the color of the piece, the size of the snapshot, etc.
@ Fergus: well, it's a bit your fault Fergus. You asked both Bob and me and then it was not possible to understand that you were not speaking to both of us. About the color, I first understood that you wanted pieces on a blue background, so did Bob, then that you wanted blue pieces on a black background. If you prefer white pieces on a black background it is not a problem at all.
Actually, there is something VERY simple to do, a piece of cake for you. You go to:
https://www.thingiverse.com/kazo65/designs
There you can download the .stl of the piece you would like.
Then you open that .stl with:
And you can have a snapshot of that piece with the color you like, the background you like, the orientation you like, the size you like, etc.
If you can't do that and need help, please tell me exactly which piece/color/background you would like, I will make it for you.
"I just looked at these pieces on my Likebook Mars, and they fade into the background too much on it."
I don't have a Likebook Mars, so I don't know what you mean.
@Fergus: Here:
I like these two 3D designs. You could do a similar one for the Señora.
You could have mentionned that these pieces behave as the opposite of the so-called Chinese pieces, xiangqi's Cannon (a.k.a. Pao), Vao and Leo.
The names Faro, Loco, Señora are smart. A semaphor (Faro) is a kind of tower (Rook is Torre/Tour in Spanish/French), Loco is the Spanish translation of Fou in French which is the name for the Bishop in chess, and obviously Señora, lady in English is related to Dama/Dame in Spanish/French, meaning lady in English and the name of the Queen in chess.
Good post.
It reminds me of the sandworm of Dune. Well, if it was a sandworm it would have a larger diameter, which a could be a good idea because in reality I would fear this piece breaks too easily.
I had the same problem and same message. Now, this has changed and when I try to enter a new game, here called "NewgamecazauxIdontbelieveitexists", I get this:
Error: You may not edit NewgamecazauxIdontbelieveitexists, because this (MS) is a preexisting submission that you (jean-louiscazaux) are not the author (duniho or ) of. If you chose the same name by coincidence, please go back and enter a different name.
I've made several tentatives. Apparently, I cannot enter any new game.
@Adam: you wrote "uploadnig a new Jocly game to the site." Which site are you talking about? The one linked to this comment brings to a page where the last update is from 2023. And that page has a hyperlink on "Jocly" word which is broken.
Where can your work on Jocly with François, HG, can be found?
Thanks
@ HG: "If you want to see a running install featuring the newly added games, you can use the one on CVP (just select any of the dedicated variant links on the Jocly overview page, and then click 'other jocly games' at the bottom right to select a game)"
Yes, that's what I wanted. Thanks.
I also know the address for François's Biscandine.
As the matter of fact, why don't you update that page "Play Chess Variants with Jocly" which was listing all available games until last year?
Maybe it is what you plan to do later on?
@Bob: Yes. I imagine a piece that can land on a friendly piece and immediatly kills (removes) that piece and all pieces in the 8 squares around, friend or enemy.
It is possible to capture an enemy sandworm. It is possible to move to an adjacent square to a sandworm, friend or enemy. The sandworm capture adjacent pieces only when it moves.
@Aurelian: I found the Joker difficult to play on-line because you need to have in mind what was the last piece moved and that the Joker mimics. If you play several games in parallel and that a succesive move may happen in the next days, it is difficult. Maybe this is why this interesting piece lacks of popularity. It is probably different when played over a board and in a short time frame.
@ Daniel Z for Overboard:

I read the description of the pieces. There is no difference between White Elephant and Black Elephant, same for Hare, Courier Pawn, etc. Am I missing something? I have not understood.

Why do you persit in calling Aanca the W-then-B? Do this is perpetuating a regrettable mistake. Aanca is F-then-R, the Gryphon as in Grant Acedrex (our variant of the month!). Manticore, Rhinoceros (as your symbol) are names used on other variants here with no problem.
Indeed, it is in fairychess file. So, this is really sticking. Why can't we be disciplined just a little. On this community we all once agreed that Betza once made a mistake, he overread, when calling Aanca the wrong piece. We had a long discussion on that. So why there is still aanca for the wrong piece in this file which is rather recent? And then, it is contageous. I know that not everyone likes history and languages as I do. But once a fact is known, why keeping ignoring it? Ignorance is always stronger than culture. This is really discouraging.
@Kevin: you say "Even Jean-Louis has written an inventor can feel free to choose their own names (at least when he does not mind too much :) )"
Well, I understand I might appear a bit psychorigid sometimes. But I'm not, except for 1 case. I do think that an inventor may choose the names he wants. I also think that an inventor should, by respect, do a small effort to know what others have done. And take it or not, but with knowledge.
The case which upsets me is Aanka used for W-then-B. But I will stop saying it. Now everyone knows this story and may decide whether it is a good idea or not to use this name. I am tired to argue with those who are purposely not understanding. They can call Aanka what they want, and why not call the Rook an Obispo if they like.
Concerning WD I call it War Machine, or simply Machine. Several decades ago (I'm a veteran), I was calling it War Machine as it is to the Dabbaba the same thing that (my) Elephant is to the Alfil (the translation vs the old Arabic word). Some are saying "Modern Elephant" to be explicit, so I would agree with Lev to say "Modern War Machine" or simply Modern Machine. .
@Bob: "for your own part"? I don't know where you got that. I never saw this. I have seen "Godzilla" as compound of W-R and F-R. Here by Ivan Derzhanski.
About the discussion on Aanca, if you search a litlle bit you will find, even on this site, for example just on our last month recognized game. Aanca is the word in medieval Spanish used to describe the anqa, a giant eagle preying elephants from the Persian tales, in the Libro de los juegos (1273), for Grant Acedrex, playing as F-R.
Murray (History of Chess, 1913) translated Aanca by Gryphon (which is not exactly the same monster), hence the name used by most chess variant lovers.
Betza made a mistake by misunderstanding Murray and called Aanca the W-R, not the F-R.
Aanca=Anqa=Gryphon as much as Rey=King, Peon=Pawn, Torre=Rook.
We do have a large choice of other names for W-R so there is no need to employ a word which results from a mistake.
I was wondering how this rule could be used on a giant CV, Bigorra for example. It could be a way to accelerate the game, no? Is there anyone who had tried this already?
Maybe the priority (to choose which friendly piece to move) has to be cancelled in order to keep the game as simple as possible.
@Bn Em: I have not understood this "The difference there is that like pieces follow like"?
What do you mean?

@ Fergus: I can make an image of any 3D piece without any background. Just tell me which one from here if you want to make a test:
https://www.chessvariants.com/craft/a-catalog-of-3d-printable-chess-variant-pieces
Of course, that can be done with Bob's pieces as well.
