An interesting further large version would be to have two adjacent Fanorama boards making 9x10 cells, effectively creating a River that Bishops cannot move - the closest thing yet to a Xiang Qi with long-range diagonal pieces! Queens would have to cross it orthogonally. The Pawn rank could be further forward. If Pawns crossing the River acquired a sideways move as well it would solve the problem of barring them from the promotion rank until there was somehting to promote them to, as promotion could becaome optional (shades of Shogi as well!) on any move ending on that rank.

Another good crossover variant. A playable variant is better than millions of ABC large variants.
