The item ID of this page is incorrect. It should be "MSshuka" instead of "MSshoka".

Since there is already an MSshuka, I cannot change it to that. Would you like me to delete MSshoka instead?

A. M. DeWitt wrote on Thu, Mar 16, 2023 08:06 PM UTC in reply to Fergus Duniho from 06:35 PM:

I'm trying to either delete MSshuka (with a u), or copy the text in this page over to MSshuka and then delete MSshoka. Apparently, MSshuka didn't fully delete when I tried to do it the first time. This is what the page says when I go to MSshuka:

<404 Error Stuff>

ItemID is MSshuka

A record of this page is still in the database, and it indicates that the page has been deleted.

In other words, the database still has the MSshuka record, but it has been tricked into thinking it has been deleted.

This page is now at MSshuka.

@Adam: your enhanced Queen is the one I have used as a promotion in my recent Patchanka and that I called Begum. However I have used the Alfaerie symbol named "Medusa" and indeed, I'm thinking changing the name of this piece to Medusa maybe.

@Jean-Louis Cazaux,

I'm sure the Queen+Alibaba compound piece has been invented before. It's a simple enough piece that this is pretty much inevitable.

However, since this game is not part of your Cazaux family of games, the piece will not share the same name as your piece. However, I might rename the Queen in this game, since it is different enough from the Chess Queen that such a change would be beneficial.

As for your version of the piece, I think piece names work best when they are paired with a matching or appropriate symbol. The Medusa name would be ideal if you want to continue using the symbol you are using now.

In Superchess QAD is called a Grand Duke.

I think this game needs a different name for the piece. It already has a King.

Jean-Louis Cazaux wrote on Tue, Feb 6 06:15 AM UTC in reply to A. M. DeWitt from 03:45 AM:

I have opted for Medusa finally for Patchanka. As said Adam, because it is the name that the icon I took had (for which reason that icon was a Medusa, I don't know). We have also an icon called "Gorgona". In mythology, Medusa was one of the Gorgons. Interestingly, V.R.Parton invented CVs with Gorgons which petrifies the enemy pieces.

A. M. DeWitt wrote on Tue, Feb 6 05:28 PM UTC in reply to Jean-Louis Cazaux from 06:15 AM:

I think I will rename the Queen to General.

And change the icon accordingly?

PS: I'm thinking of moving the Medusa's entry in the Icon Clearinghouse to list a move of QAD.

A. M. DeWitt wrote on Tue, Feb 6 06:17 PM UTC in reply to Bob Greenwade from 05:36 PM:

Yes, the icon will probably be changed.

I have renamed the Queen to Beast, which I think is pretty fitting, since the piece is basically halfway between Queen and Amazon.
