Borderline
A minimalistic version with a 7x7 board, without pawns, with only one king to capture, capturing of opponent's pieces takes place, but the captured pieces start again from their base position on the baseline.
Setup
The king starts in the center of the board. The pieces of the two opponents line up on their baseline. Rank 4 is the borderline.
Rules
- The pieces move according to FIDE rules.
- The capture of opponent's pieces take place. The captured pieces start again from their base position on the baseline.
- Capturing from baseline to baseline is excluded.
- The king can only be attacked beyond the borderline, which means that a piece cannot capture the king until the borderline has been crossed.
- The player can move the king instead of one of his own pieces - provided that the king is in check, or can be put in check with the next countermove.
- The king can move on the board without restriction.
- If the player moves the king, it cannot be moved into own check.
- If the king is in check and the opponent can free the king only by moving the king into own check, then the opponent has won.
