Xiongqi
Xiongqi (Chinese: 熊棋; pinyin: xióngqí) is a strategy board game derived from Xiangqi, the Chinese form of Chess.Setup
Rules
Xiongqi has only two differences from Xiangqi:
- The size of the board is 9x9 instead of 9x10
- Elephants are replaced by bears
Bears slide any distance diagonally to move and capture. They may not jump over intervening pieces. The bear is sometimes known as the bishop by English-speaking players, since it is the same as the bishop in Western Chess. Unlike elephants in Xiangqi, bears can cross the river.
