Motif Piece Set

Here is a set of Chess pieces I made mainly from Armando Marroquin's Chess Motif font. I used his Chess Magnetic font for the Cavaliers, and drew the Cannons myself. This is the piece set I use for Cavalier Chess and Grand Cavalier Chess. It replaces the full set of Chess pieces which come with Zillions of Games, and it includes some additional pieces. You may use them noncommerically with your own games so long as you credit Armando Marroquin and myself with the artwork, and so long as you use them for the pieces they're intended for. The right-side up pieces are all intended to be specific pieces, and these are the pieces these images are used for either in Chess or Grand Cavalier Chess. The upside-down images are not intended to be any specific pieces, and you may use them for whatever pieces you wish, though I recommend designing your own pieces over using upside-down pieces.

Conditions of Free Use

There are three main possible uses for these images, and the conditions for use will vary depending on how they are used. The three main uses are Zillions of Games, Web pages (including online PBM servers), and standalone software. I'll begin with general conditions that apply to any use, then follow up with specific conditions for specific kinds of use. Any commercial use of these images requires explicit permission from both Fergus Duniho and Armando Marroquin. These conditions apply to any free use of these images by anyone besides myself outside of Chessvariants.com:

  1. Any product you use them in must be free.
  2. You should specifically mention that these pieces were made by Fergus Duniho from Armando Marroquin's Chess Motif font and are not public domain.
  3. You should use the images at full size without shrinking or enlarging them.
  4. When using them on a chessboard, the spaces on the board should be large enough to fit the pieces without any cropping and without adjacent pieces touching each other.
  5. The colors used for the spaces of the chessboard should contrast with the colors of the pieces.

If you use these images on a web page or online PBM system, this additional condition applies:

For standalone software, this additional condition applies:

And for a Zillions-of-Games rules file, these additional conditions apply:
