go moro

Christine Bagley-Jones wrote on Fri, Mar 31, 2006 02:47 AM UTC:
yes exciting end to tournament, Moro and Anand come equal first.
moro won blindfold section, it says this at amber web site ...
'The Russian scored an incredible 9,5 out of 11, a new record in the
history of the Amber tournaments'
He won by clear 3 points, pretty amazing. Anand won rapid section by 2.5
pts. Anand lost no games in rapid, 8pts from 11 games.
Vallejo came outright 3rd, how about that, no one saw that coming!
That is now the 5th time anand has won amber, and 3rd time for moro, from
just 4 appearances.

yes but if it is black's move, black wins with Bf3xe2.

Christine Bagley-Jones wrote on Mon, Apr 3, 2006 05:30 AM UTC:
the unusual question by doug was 'how can i check the white king' he he,
which is unusual because the goal of chess is checkmate, not checking the
king. check's mean nothing really if the king being checked can easily
move out of the way or block the check.
still, asking how can i check the white king, indicates that black has the
move, he he, and if this is so, black can check straight away, playing
bishop takes bishop, check, and this move also wins on the spot.
a very interesting chess problem despite it's easiness lol :)

Christine Bagley-Jones wrote on Tue, Apr 4, 2006 01:00 AM UTC:
oops my mistake, i thought black bishop was on f3, sorry.
oh well, that position is a total draw.

i have had an idea for a while, tell me what you think.
i thought it could be fun if the game inventors put out a 'xmas pack',
anyone who wants to contribute a game (zrf) can, and we put it all
together, and release at cv site xmas eve. This is NOT a competition.
i have thought of a couple of good ideas for games, i think, anyway see
what you think. (idea numbers 3 and 4 main ideas)

1. people who have an already existing game could release a variant of
that game, or release with different graphics.

2. old histroic variants of shogi and shatranj etc could be done with
different graphics, anything not already done would be ok .. example
would be ancient shogi variant done with alfaerie graphics etc.

3. Now an interesting idea i think would be people could contribute a
'funny/joke/silly' game, because people do not normally release these
types of games, not being serious enough etc. With all the weird and
wonderful game inventors around, i'm sure people could make, or already
have, some cool games. It would be fun to see.

4. not sure about this, but maybe another idea for a game could be
'bizzare' ... of course 'bizzare' games can be completely serious,
still,
it could be an idea.

5. people could just do a game for the 'xmaspack', with a 'xmas'
related
theme, graphics, etc etc, or, you could just do a game, it doesn't even
have to chess (yes?).

if the name 'xmaspack' is unsuitable, then 'newyearpack' or whatever.
anyway, it just sounds like it could be a fun idea, what do you think?

then you prosume wrong, he he, it is a leaper +
i made the comment 2 down, forgot to enter name, i was just saying that i
thought the mammoth has to be stronger than the rook, it is alfil +
dabbaba + wazir + fers, that is a heavy piece, i know just the alfil +
king moves is a strong piece, the mammoth is a killer at short range, all
over the pieces like oprah on pork chop nite :))

Jeremy let me just point out the games don't have to be xmas related, that
was just one idea along with joke/funny/silly games, bizzare games etc.
i do like your giraffe story game lol, if the xmas pack becomes a reality
that game should be included with your story of it he he :)

Christine Bagley-Jones wrote on Fri, Apr 28, 2006 04:40 PM UTC:
Good on you Joe, yes plenty of time till xmas :)
Jeremy, yes i forgot to say in last post, your 'valentine' theme sounds
interesting indeed, pieces falling in love with each other!?!, sounds
good.
How would you go about that.
idea for a piece ... let's call it a 'seducer' he he, when a white
Seducer moves next to any black piece (except king), the black piece (or
pieces) change to white, remaining that way as long as the seducer is next
to them.

Christine Bagley-Jones wrote on Sat, Apr 29, 2006 03:53 AM UTC:
yes you would have to 'fine tune' Seducer, i just gave basic idea.

Christine is indeed blind. But in a peculiar way -- she cannot see into the future. There is now a link to this collection on our site... --Editors

hey this looks good, i like the idea of these pieces dropping pieces the
further up the board they go, should make for interesting chess, well
done.

i know this might sound weird, but i think there are people out there, who
download and play chess variants, but have no interest in reading or
posting in these forums, but sometimes, they may rate a game. i think this
could explain the non-member rating with no comment. i mean, if you don't
become a member, you must have no interest in posting in the forums.
if they rate it 'excellent', then i don't think it is entirely fair to
say that it is worthless, just because of no comment.
to rate it excellent, one should assume they thought the game was really
good :)
you know if someone rated 'grand chess' excellent, then you would
probably think they liked the 'knight-bishop' piece, the 'rook-knight'
piece, these pieces playing with normal chess pieces, the 10x10 board, the
game-play, etc etc
if an obviously good game is rated 'poor' it could be just a matter of
taste, i mean, there is no game out there, which someone does not like lol
:)
i think because of our love for fairy pieces and chess variants, someone
rating without comment may ... be upsetting :) ... but you know, i think
it is a little tough to say you must comment, as someone said, there would
be people who don't know how to say why they like, not knowing the words
to describe, like 'game-play' and 'piece density' or whatever. If you
get them to 'have' to say, they may not vote, or just post something
that is no help anyway really (i thought it was really great)

still, i am not so sure non-members should be able to rate, it does leave
the door open to shifty ratings, and seeing most 'rated/no comment'
comes from non-members, you could wipe out the problem if seen as a
problem.
non-members could still 'write' there rating without it being offical
:)
anyway, just thought i would throw some ideas out.

just a couple of questions, are there any games with a similar board set up
as this game, and are there any games with this 'dragon' piece that
anyone knows of?

oh by board set up in mean the shape of the board

Christine Bagley-Jones wrote on Fri, Jun 16, 2006 02:28 AM UTC:
thanks for your answers Fergus and Gary, it seems this dragon piece is
pretty rare, i like it, stronger than bishop but not stronger than rook,
though i feel it must be very close to being as strong as a rook, in
crowded and close quarters it is powerful.

it also seems the board is very unusual, yes?
i like the way it 'cuts the corners' of the board, i think it makes for
greater game play, and the adding of squares in the mid-central area, i
think that is pretty interesting too.
