I am not sure where to put this. My bookmark for the Gothic Chess comment
areas points to dead space. Anyway, here goes:

=============

The 2005 Gothic Chess Computer World Championship will be held online this
year at the http://www.GothicChessLive.com website. Everyone is invited to

an entrance fee nor award any prize money in case this person enters

and a few other countries.) All participants will be mentioned in an
article appearing in the June 2006 issue of the International Computer
Games Association Journal.

Actually, the Pinyin transliteration of 马 is mǎ, not ma. Although it is not the Pinyin transliteration of the word, the spelling of mao has long been common in fairy chess literature. There are several systems of Chinese transliteration besides Pinyin, and it may have come from one of these.

TO. Whom so ever Concerned I have a doubt as; 1. I have a rooke and Queen but my opponent is having only Queen with some Pawns on Both sides. If it is not possible to finish the game within 16 moves, whether the game is DRAWN or Who is Winner? @. What is 16 move rule? I hope you will help me in this regard & oblige. Thanks & Regards Avinash

M Winther wrote on Fri, May 12, 2006 04:40 PM UTC:
There is no such 16 move rule. There is a 50 move rule, however, which says
that a pawn must be moved within 50 moves, otherwise the game is declared a
draw.

Gary Gifford wrote on Fri, May 12, 2006 10:51 PM UTC:
The 50 move rule is a bit more than what was recently stated regarding pawn
movement. The rule makes the game drawn, if

the last 50 consecutive moves have been made without the movement of any
pawn AND without the capture of any piece (or pawn).

Thus, when a piece is captured (or a pawn) the 50 move count must start all
over again.

yes, but in chess variants the rules are different for every game. Are u talking about USCF Tournament rules? Typically in friendly games people commonly play that if one player only has a king left u must check-mate him in 25 moves or its a draw.

Gary Gifford wrote on Sat, May 13, 2006 01:36 PM UTC:
50 Move Rule - I was reffering to USCF and FIDE rules for standard Chess. There is no 'official' 25-move rule. A player can claim a draw when there is 'insufficient mating material.' When that is the case the game ends at that point, as a draw -- no continued playing for 25 or 50 moves... not even for 1 more move.

I wanted to know, when can a person CANCEL a game. I and another individual started a game of CHESS. Well then he said he wanted more time per move, so asked the moderator of the site, her friend to CANCEL the RATED game. He did saying that he did not legaly move 4 moves, so she could CCANCEL.. How many moves untill Cancelation is possible.. I thought it was four moves total??

WHEN YOU ARE IN CHECK ARE YOU ALLOWED TO ATTACK

Jeremy Good wrote on Fri, Aug 4, 2006 11:04 AM UTC:
Yes, but only if you also get out of check at the same time.

Only if you are playing regicide rules in 4-Way Chess

Stephen Stockman wrote on Fri, Aug 4, 2006 12:26 PM UTC:
why do u need 9 queens, 4 four queens will cover the whole board. no, u can never have 9 queens.

🕸Fergus Duniho wrote on Fri, Aug 4, 2006 02:08 PM UTC:
It is possible to have nine Queens in Chess. I already knew it was legal, and to find out whether it could actually be done, I just played a game against myself with the object of getting nine Queens for White. I got all nine Queens, checkmating Black only when I got the ninth Queen. Of course, this required lots of cooperation between Black and White, and in a normal game where both players are trying to win, it is very unlikely that either player will ever have nine Queens. But however improbable it will be in actual games, it is possible.
