To keep cell heights from doubling, long game names are now truncated.
On the Logs page, the name of each game is now linked to the rules page for that game. In the event that a link does not work, the wrong link has been provided in the log for the game. This page cannot correct such errors.
Have you tested this game?. I am not able to (mentally) figure well the game play, but it looks interesting at first.
Mistake. The comment was inserted here due an error. It is about 'Imposter Chess'. Excuse it.
Please, a filter for Logs in the Tournement
The First Game Courier Tournement has begun, it is developing nicely and I´m sure all in the Tournement is enjoying it a lot. Recognitions to Fergus work, he not only made an excellent work organizing this competition, but improving the System specially for it. Thank you, Fergus, superb work. In the future, we can expect new Tournements. Of what kind?. It is not hard to see that a Shogi Tournement can attract a lot of people, maybe the same effect can produce an Oriental-Variants Tournement, including Shogi, Makruk and Xiang-Qi. Ultima variants Tournement can have adepts, Large Board Tournement may be interesting, and a Little Board Tournement, with a selection of games taken from the Contests, should be really great. By the moment, this first experience should serve as a point of reference for future competitions.
I'm thinking that a Shogi variant tournament might draw in people. Some possibilities would be Shogi, Kamikaze Mortal Shogi, Hex Shogi, Tori Shogi, and Yari Shogi, Crazyhouse or Chessgi, and Loonybird.
Instead of Loonybird, you can select Dragonfly. Yes, this Tournement can attract many people, I think. You can explore the market, and hear the opinion of interested people.
Whale Shogi is a nice game not very known, and it is not trivial, regardless the dimensions of board. I don´t know the history of this game, but I think it is not enterely Japanese, isn´t right?
I have seen the page of Whale Shogi in the index. It is an Schmittberger game, most played outside Japan, although apparently not very much. No jokes Mike. Tai Shogi and Taikyouku Shogi can´t be in the Tournement. All of us are mortal people. The selection of games must be not too extense, I agree with the primary selection of Fergus (sustituting Loonybird by Dragonfly), and it may still be reduced a little.
Whale Shogi would be a good one to include. Tai Shogi is too large. That one game alone would drag out the length of the tournament well past the ending of the other games. Loonybird has more of a distinctive character than Dragonfly has. Dragonfly is too much like Chessgi to bother including both games, but Loonybird, with its hunter pieces, stands out.
There are game Logs that are apparently abandoned, some of them dating form October and November of 2003. How is going the system to handle with these games?. How much may the system wait for automatically delete these games?. If there are not previsions, some day the number of abandoned games may be superior to the ongoing games, and this is not good for the system, though.
Tonight, I discovered that the Logs page was giving incorrect links for game rules whose presets used the new method of storing the full settings in a separate file. This is because all it was reading was the log file, which didn't have any assignment for $rules. I fixed this, so that the value of $rules is taken from the settings file when there is one.
Because logs have been accumulating, I changed the default behavior of this page to list only the logs from the last seven days instead of logs from anytime. It is still possible to view any log from the very beginning by specifically selecting 'Anytime' in the form.
Is there a way that you can sort this view, to only show the games that a particular player is playing? (i.e. one's games) or for a specific variant only?
No, there is no way of sorting logs that filters them instead, because sorting and filtering are two different operations. But this page does allow both filtering and sorting. The specific operations you asked about are examples of filtering, not sorting. If you want to see only logs for one particular player, enter that player's userid in the userid field. To limit it to one particular game, enter an appropriate wildcard pattern on the log name. Generally, put an asterisk at each end, write the name in lowercase, and use underscores instead of spaces in your wildcard pattern. There is currently no filtering on the game name, per se. But filtering on the logname is normally sufficient, because the game's name is automatically put into it.
How has someone's game of Fischer Random Chess managed to sneak through the tournament filter?
What happend with my games ? I cann't see boards...
The logs have been transferred to the new server, and Game Courier should be fully functional now.
All games that were begun on the new server before the completion of the transfer from chessvariants.com have been deleted. Things should be stable now that the transfer is complete.
Also... I was have attempt to invite Shogi game in chessvariants.com Japanes Pieces not work - I cann't see board. Another boards it's OK.
Fantastic !!! David Ramsey make move and now I must continue own game blind playing. Great ! This is first party Shogy on my life that I must play without board. :-( I like play here. Now I know , that point - the board : another boards it's OK. Please , repair ...
There were two reasons why your board didn't show up, and both were due to the move. Your board was being rendered with the PNG method, which uses fonts and saves its boards to a temp directory. The fonts had not been copied over with the rest of the site. They are stored outside the public_html hierarchy, and David probably neglected to think of them, because he wasn't the one who had uploaded them. Also, the permissions on the temp directory were not set to allow writing by Game Courier. I fixed that by changing it to 0777. With these fixes made, your PNG board now shows up normally.
