Usually I suspect binding both Bishops to the same cells of being an oversight, but I can see a point in it here, in that any piece can reach the enemy Home Square. I was about to rate the variant good for this but then I noticed that the Bishops start mutually en prise, which I DO suspect of being an oversight.

You can fix the bishop by adding extra pawns in front of the bishops, so then each player will have 8 pawns instead of 6.
