@ Fergus:

I tried to place a picture of myself on my personal info page, but it didn't show up for some reason (well, a small icon did instead). The picture is from about 2010, and is on the CFC Discussion Board Forum (shows up in my blog entries there, to forum members), as well as the FIDE website (probably still), if one searches for my name as a player there. That's in case you can help by taking it from either place, if I cannot figure out how to do it from my laptop Pictures, later, still.

The value you have stored for PathToImageFile is "C:\Users\User1\Pictures\KPacey.jpg". This refers to a file on your computer, but it should refer to a file on our website. I have just enabled the ability to upload and manage files for your person information page. This uses the file manager that is also used for submissions. From your personal information, look for the edit menu when you are signed in. This will let you upload your image. Then use the URL it gives you for that image when you enter the URL for your image.

I didn't see anything new (e.g. nothing said 'click here to upload', for example) when I tried 'Edit person' again on my personal info page. After trying a few things (I'm completely in the dark, as usual with modern computers) I gave up, but maybe you can tell me if I came any closer to success.

edit: I finally saw 'Edit' on the overhead menu beside Personal Info (on the overhead menu). When I selected my picture from my laptop computer's files by highlighting/selecting it, I then clicked 'Upload' in the CVP 'Edit' mode. The result was that the upload was 'allowed' but it also said 'it failed for some unknown reason'.

I don't know if it makes any difference, but yesterday I had cut and pasted the picture on the CFC Discussion Board website (a picture that I had once uploaded to it from a computer I used to have) in order to get the picture into my Pictures files on my laptop.

I don't believe it works that way. First, click on the Browse button. Select an image and click Open. The name of your file will then show up to the right of the Browse button. Then click Upload.

Kevin Pacey wrote on Fri, Apr 9, 2021 12:22 AM UTC:

When I select an image and click Open, a window appears showing my picture. To the right of the Browser Button, however, only appears a rectangular icon saying 'Photos', not the name of my photo selected (KPacey.jpg). Frustrating, as Uploading from CVP still is allowed, but fails. I assume the browser button is located in the extreme lower left of my screen (shows how little I know about modern computers).

If I right-click on an image and select Open from the context menu, that is what happens. When you click on Browse, it will open up a file requester. When you left-click on a file, its name will show up where it says "File name:" at the bottom. In the bottom right of the requester are two buttons that say Open and Cancel. The Open button is the one to use to select your file. Alternately, you could right-click on the image and choose Select from the context menu, or you could double left-click on the image.

I never directed you to use a Browser button. The Browse button, which has a verb name, not a noun name, is in a form on the script for uploading files. The button on the extreme lower left of your screen is your Start menu, which is part of Windows and has nothing to do with uploading files here.

🕸Fergus Duniho wrote on Fri, Apr 9, 2021 01:25 PM UTC in reply to Fergus Duniho from 01:19 PM:

The Browse button has different names depending on the browser, because its name is not fixed in the HTML. It says "Browse ..." on Firefox, but it says "Choose Files" on Edge or Chrome and presumably other Chromium-based browsers.

Kevin Pacey wrote on Sat, Apr 10, 2021 02:33 AM UTC:

Well, I was finally able to upload my picture to CVP (I had to use 'Choose Files', etc. from EDIT [within the overhead menu]). However, I don't know how to use the URL (if I'm seeing it there in EDIT [within the overhead menu], at all) to put my picture into my Personal info page. I know next to nothing about how URLs work, or how to manage them.

If you ask me, technology may be going backwards. About ten years ago I could upload and display the same picture on two Canadian chess discussion boards, no sweat, and I knew little about modern computers back then, too. I see some other CVP members already have pictures of themselves on their Personal info page, somehow, years back (e.g. H.G., Carlos).

Ben Reiniger wrote on Sat, Apr 10, 2021 03:19 PM UTC in reply to Kevin Pacey from 02:33 AM:

@Kevin, You had the website field populated instead of the image field, and the link you provided had our server's folder structure (starting /home/public_html I think) rather than the URL. I've fixed both.

@all, We should perhaps have a select-upload-and-use button on the Edit Person form, rather than the separate Upload for files in the membergraphics/@personid folder then specifying that URL in the Edit Person form. The latter does provide some more flexibility, but we can have both, I'd imagine.

@ Ben:

That's great, thanks.

@ Fergus:

Sorry if I ticked you off. We're dealing with some tiring issues such as with our phone+internet provider and I should have been more patient.

{Bruh I can look nerd or teaching, but if I created many games with same thematic or rules, I’d used to write them in ONE PAGE.

Bruh it’s just my own subjective opinion)}

Hello Lev,

You cannot put more interactive diagrams on one page. That makes making more pages necessary!

Kevin,

You have probably did not noticed my games, I have mentioned earlier!

Kevin Pacey wrote on Sat, Jan 13 05:27 PM UTC in reply to Aurelian Florea from 11:45 AM:

Hi Aurelian

I noticed those games, yes. I don't mind the borrowing from my own games (in fact editor(s) passed your rules pages, so the differences must be substantial enough).

I've been preoccupied with my own submissions [all ready now]/presets/invention ides/game logs lately, among other things, so I have not looked at your games too closely, at least not yet. Let me know if there's something you wish.

Regards, Kevin.

Nothing special Kevin! I'm just happy I could tinker with new ideas. Good luck, Aurelian!

@ Fergus (and others):

There was a death in my family this evening, so I may be a bit slow moving in our games or responding to any requests by editorial staff re: my pending submissions from March, at least for a while. I am not too upset at the moment, but my sister-in-law and others may need assistance.

Regards, Kevin Pacey

Is there a way editor(s) can let me know my 10 submissions to be reviewed have not been forgotten? I put out a comment for each of the 10 about two months ago that each was ready for review.

Kevin Pacey wrote on Tue, Apr 30 03:41 PM UTC in reply to Kevin Pacey from Sun Apr 28 07:51 PM:

I still have no idea whether all 10 of my submissions awaiting review stink, or whether I'm super-buried in the queue, or...?

Bob Greenwade wrote on Tue, Apr 30 04:19 PM UTC in reply to Kevin Pacey from 03:41 PM:

I suspect the last; I have two rules pages (Monster Mash and Xodohtro Chess), two GC presets (Hundred Acre Chess and Food Fight), and a Piececlopedia article (Okapi) waiting to be published.
