Have mercy! This just keeps getting worse.

Does anyone even know (much less, care) what was happening 500 years ago to
the day in the chess variant community?

The above being the lead originating source for more inquiry, this was started last year in finding for instance that Ultima is invented 50 years ago: http://www.chessvariants.org/index/displaycomment.php?commentid=27050.

I've been visiting this chess variant site for almost 14 years. I like
these posts by George. They sometimes remind me of things I've
participated in that I have forgotten, and I'll go to the old threads to
review the discussion.

I also enjoy the historical notes. I would be very interested to hear
about something noteworthy happening 500 years ago. I don't think these
notes need to be generated every day, but every now and then is nice.

That, geologic deep time ago heh, 400 years(license), Shakespeare finished 'The
Tempest' 1611 with chess-playing Ferdinand and Miranda,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tempest in the new to them Caribbean
world. Chess: http://sparknotes.com/shakespeare/tempest/themes.html. The notable line, ''o brave new world that has such people in it.'' More '500-year' ones are not ready yet by documentation.
Thanks Joe John Ben [later Michael above], there's really no matter of any change other than that several history threads should become one article in advocacy for inciting reform/revolution.

Add my favorable vote to the others. I find the articles interesting and
enjoyable--and I say this as someone who has has disagreements in the past
with Mr. Duke. If anyone doesn't like them they are easy to skip--no need
for the CVP to spoil it by removing interesting articles.

Http://www.ucdenver.edu/about/newsroom/newsreleases/Pages/Researchers-say-Neanderthals-interbred-with-modern-humans.aspx. Late scientific revision under way has homo sapiens and homo neanderthalenthis conspecific like for example Snow goose/Blue goose interbred to one species. European-extracted today can have 4, 5, 6% neanderthal genes of the 23,000. Peak amalgamation of the two strains, characterized bulbous head, dexterous hand, bipedalism, occuring after 40 millennia ago. Imagine, before the subspecies fully merged, what skill games unlikely chess-like could have been played then capable of. Apparently provisionally more mental Neanderthal contributed long-range planning, see the articles.
