I would like to find some suitable artwork for our 404 page, which comes up whenever someone enters an incorrect URL for our site. It should be about Chess or a Chess variant, and it should visually convey the idea that something is wrong. It wouldn't be enough to just show a Chess variant that is obviously different from Chess, because that wouldn't stand out from what this site is about. I have already found some good artwork, but I don't think any of it is in the public domain. Besides being suitable, it should be something we can legally use. Here are links to some artwork I've found suitable so far. Post links to anything else you think would be suitable.

Go Master by Diueine
David und Goliath spielen schach by Siegfried Zademack.
Echec Et Mat/ Checkmate by Isabelle Rozot.

I think all the pictures are a very bad idea. They are huge, and load very
slowly. When I click wrong link I don't want to have to spend a lot of
time and bandwidth on it.

A black-and-white line drawing might be acceptably small, but anything else
wold annoy me hugely.

Are you using dial-up? They all load quickly for me with broadband.

Okay, I have put a photo up on the 404 page.

There are still plenty of us on dial-up. For the moment I'm the only
person in my household who uses the internet, and I'm in constant hope of
moving soon, so the move would be the logical stage to go over to
broadband. I would be interested to hear fellow dial-up users' views on
different kinds of array graphics.

I was using dial-up until just a few years ago. I developed most of Game
Courier while using dial-up, and the download times for graphics generated
by Game Courier or otherwise used on this site for diagrams have not been
significant. I got broadband when I moved, and I don't want to go back,
because now I also use the internet for streaming audio and video, and
it's much easier to collect MP3s now that I don't have to leave my
computer on all night to download them. I've also switched from watching
an actual television to watching movies and television programming on my
computer. If you already have cable television, you can probably save money
by switching to broadband internet and watching television programming over
the web.
