Excellent for the new images. But it would be nice to see the alpha-numeric codes by these pieces so, for example, if one wanted to use a 'Hero' he [or she] could go to edit their applicable pre-set and simply add the code to the desired square. Without the code designators board setups will be a bit more dificult. Or, is there an easy way to get these codes that I am unaware of? If so, what is it? Many thanks.

Hey, Gary. I had that problem, with the hero and other pieces. The trick is
to put the designator in square brackets in your preset. So the standard
knight is n or N, and this is typed into the appropriate spot in the
preset editor. The hero used in Lemurian Shatranj would be:
 [_JG_ldw] or [_JG_LDW]
Typing this in the appropriate spot will put the hero where you want on
the board. My son looked it up in the Game Courier instructions.

you mean from this page right Joe? .. hmm i think the above link will be
broken when this comes out
edit: oh it wasn't ha ha

Yes, but there are a few games that give the total piece set, though you have to search for some pieces. A Logical Follow-up to the Duke of Rutland's chess is one such game, and I believe there are more.

Gary Gifford wrote on Tue, Aug 15, 2006 09:56 AM UTC:
Joe & Christine - Thanks for the info. I know haw to use the brackets for pre-set pieces --- but I was not (am not) sure how to find all the piece designators such as your [_JG_ldw] or [_JG_LDW] without finding a game that currently uses them. So if we have, for example, a Diagonal Cyclops Evaporator piece - but it is not currently in a game, it is simply available... how would we find out its identifier code? The link Christine provided helps a lot.

Christine Bagley-Jones wrote on Tue, Aug 15, 2006 10:22 AM UTC:
well after what Joe said, i found this one which has even more than the link i gave earlier.

Link

yes it would be good to have it listed or something, i mean a page, not within a game, that shows all graphics

Game Courier will show you the full piece set you are using unless your preset has the 'Exclude pieces not in game' option checked. If you're not seeing the full set, uncheck this option and click 'Update' in Edit mode.

There's one more piece I'd like to get into the expanded alfaerie set,
the Lightning warmachine from Grand Shatranj, designated 'L' in the
Grand Shatranj Alfaerie piece set. Whenever you can get it in, thanks.

It would be found here:

Joe, expansion set 4 has that graphic, the one released a few weeks ago, it is called 'lightningwarmachine' :))

Joe Joyce wrote on Wed, Aug 16, 2006 03:07 PM UTC:
Thanks, Christine - must have missed it in the Alfaerie Many set - not surprising, as neither my son nor I could find the GUard piece for 10 minutes in that set. Joe

Nice, as always.

Just one thing. When it would be possible to know from wich game(s) the
piece come from, please, post a link to it.

Thanks!

What do all of the different Shogi-based pieces do? And why do they have those names?

Anonymous wrote on Sun, Sep 19, 2010 01:35 PM UTC:
I believe the Shogi pieces move as the dots surrounding them indicate (e.g. Tile General steps one square diagonal forward or orthogonal backward).

Look here for shogi variants piece:

These names probably have budhist symbolism.
