Some semantic nitpicking:
- When the tournament rules mention 'White' and 'Black', presumably 'White' means the first player (White in Chess, Red in Xiangqi, Black in Shogi) and 'Black' means the second player (Black in Chess and Xiangqi, White in Shogi)?
- The first round will be a true round robin (meaning everyone plays everyone) only if exactly seven players participate.
- If my understanding of the Buchholz-Solkoff and Sonneborn-Berger tiebreaks (as explained here) is correct, then this page's description of Buchholz-Solkoff is incorrect, and that of Sonneborn-Berger is incomplete and potentially misleading.
Oh, and sign me up, please.
1. Yes, I meant the first player and the second player. 2. Indeed, each player will meet all the other participants in the first phase only if there are exactly seven participants. I didn't think of a better term than round-robin, but there should be one. 3. The worst mistake. I copied and pasted Fergus' page for GCT#2 and applied it to a different situation. (GCT#1 and GCT#2 are true round-robins.) I think I'll follow your link.
Awesome idea. I have to go and clear my schedule--I have always wanted to see something like this. Give me a chance to determine my availability. Thanks for creating this tourney.
I'm in.
Not until you get a userid, which you will need to play the games on Game Courier, and actually tell us who you are.
Hi , I'm new to this site,I would like to play in the chess shogi Xinang qui tournament. How do I register for it?
You post here with your userid, saying you would like to register, as you've already done.
Antoine, you're overlooked darren paull and Paolo Porsia. So you have seven signed up, not just five.
But neither is playing regularly, like Jeremy Good or Nicola Caridi, nor has provided an email address. How can I contact them?
Each one has given an email address, but neither has made it publicly viewable. As an editor of this site, you can access their email addresses by clicking on the Edit option that is available only to editors.
Thanks a lot Fergus, I have added them. So the Chess-Xiangqi-Shogi Tournament will start in a few days. Are there other contestants?
I'll give the Chess/Xianqi/Shogi Tournament #1 a go. Please sign me up, thank you. Gary
I'll play in this tournament. So count me in.
I'd be interested in making it a round '10', or if I'm too late for that then a squiggly '11'.
It would be eleven, since Nasmichael Farris has also registered by e-mail. But please finalize your registration as a member or user, so that we get your e-mail address, otherwise you won't be able to play.
True, I have your e-mail address through the editor command, so I'm adding you to the list. But I guess you still have to finalize your registration to be able to play.
Antoine, the first step in beginning this tournament will be to define a round. You can do this from any preset. In the preset menu, there is a button labled 'Define'. Click on this to define a round. You can automatically set the time controls with the dropdown menu at the top of the 'Time Controls' section. Selecting 'Email -- Tournament' will set the time controls to the values this page says they will be. For the 'Tournament' field, you should use a unique label that you will subsequently use to identify all games and rounds in this tournament. For the 'Round' field, you should enter the round number, which is simply '1' for the first round. Check the 'Rated' checkbox so that games in the round will be rated. After you've defined a round, you can assign individual games. For this, go to the preset that will be used for a game, then click on the 'Assign' button, which is right below the 'Define' button. Fill in the 'Tournament' and 'Round' fields with the same values you used to define a round. Put the first player's userid in the 'Player' field and the second player's userid in the 'Opponent' field.
Registration will be definitely closed at midnight (Eastern time). Soon afterwards, I'll add a section indicating who plays whom at what and in which order. Tomorrow evening, I'lI assign the games. The Chess Preset should be HTML table for board. The Xiangqi Preset should be CSS. The Shogi Preset should be Uncheckered Board, Displays as small PNG file. If a player is dissatisfied with one of these presets (anyway, you are able to choose your set of pieces regardless of the preset), I'll ask his opponent about preferences and try to choose another preset for their game.
