This game is definitely not balanced. Black (Shatranj) will blow white (Shogi) out of the water, unless it's Deep Blue versus a complete novice. The two Lances are NO match for the Rooks, and I really question whether the Silver is more valuable than a Knight in the end-game. Cazeaux balanced his game by varying the number of pieces. We definitely need to bring back the Shogi Rook and Bishop if we're going going to get anywhere near balancing this game.
Thanks for comment. I knew that it's not balanced. I'll include variant with shogi rook and bishop now.
I'm not sure that game is so unbalanced. But I made another preset which looks the best. It is really full Shogi army with two Golds. Two Golds are same as two knights. Two lances are same as two elephants. Two honorable horses are same as one ferz. Two Silvers are same as one rook. So Percian army have advantage - one rook. Also shatranjian pawns are stronger, in my opinion. But Shogi army have big advantage in large promotion zone, and promotes to piece which is stronger than ferz. /play/pbm/play.php?game=Ancient+Civilization&settings=default
In Clash of Civilizations Chess (Shuffle Version) 10x10 chess games plays against other 10x10 chess games. So, why not try it with games games with 8, 9, 12 or 5 files (not necessary with same number of ranks)? Wich g ames can be chosen for approximately balanced games?
