Comments/Ratings for a Single Item
To editors: just to be clear, I think this submission is ready.
I used shortcodes to display the Waffle piece image, as drawdiagram.php is meant for diagrams, not for displaying individual pieces. I put this page in the same group as the Waffle Chess preset, so that the preset would show up in the Play menu. For some reason, this is at /rules/wafflechess, but the preset is at /play/waffle-chess. I'll have to look into why it is using a hyphen for one and not the other.

I created two test pages. One was a rules page for Testy Chess, and one was a Game Courier page. Both used the GameID of testychess. It appears that the Waffle Chess preset page was about five years older and was made at a time when adding a hyphen was a convention.
That could be bad news for me. A number of my Settings Files use hyphens in their names.

I have modified how new game IDs are created. First, it uses slugify to create a lowercase slug that replaces spaces with underscores. It also modifies this into one with hyphens instead of underscores and one that just removes the underscores. It then checks the database for one using hyphens, and if it finds one, it uses the one with hyphens. If not, it checks for one with underscores. If it finds one, it uses it. If not, it checks for one without underscores or hyphens. If it finds one, it uses it. If not, it uses the one with hyphens. So, this new method favors hyphens, but it will avoid breaking things if the pre-existing GameIDs for the same game do not use hyphens. This should also help prevent people from making pages for pre-existing games whose GameID or ItemID is following a slightly different convention.
I have one Settings File for an unpublished game that is called Lancer-Chess. It could have been called Fibnif Chess instead (having partly a ridiculous name Betza used for a piece type, H.G. would say), and I'm wondering if there is a way to change the name of the Settings File, other than by creating a new Settings File through a normal edit (then the old Settings File would still exist and need to be ignored somehow). That's if a name change is necessary.
My worry is, there is already someone else's CV named Lancer Chess in the database, a published game. I had supposed my adding a hyphen into my game's name could be enough of a distinction for an editor not to mind, but there are now other possible complications I may not be grasping.

It might have been enough to slip by the cracks, but we do prefer that people use unique names, and whether or not you use a hyphen doesn't make a significant difference. This is why DC never created a character called Spiderman, and Marvel never created one called Bat-Man.
Hmmm
Lancers Chess is already taken, besides LancerChess (one word[!]).
I'm afraid Fibnif Chess is looking like a highly possible replacement name for me, unless an editor looks the other way and gives Lancer-Chess a pass as the permitted name. Unless Lancer Chess is okay (my misspelling in a previous post of LancerChess). [edit: except there is some sort of Lancer Chess on Chess.com. So maybe LancersChess (one word) is okay???]
How about Fibnif Lancers Chess? Adding Fibnif distinguishes it from variants not using that piece, but it still comes closer to what you want than Fibnif Chess alone does.
@ Fergus:
I have some other Settings Files that use the term 'Lancer' (e.g. Lancer-Spiel), but I suppose I could rename just the one Settings File from Lancer-Chess to Fibnif Lancers Chess; not sure I want to make it one of the next few things I aim to submit (to be for an aspiring rules page or preset page of mine).
@ Fergus:
I now have a Settings File called Fibnif Lancers Chess. I still have a Settings File called Lancer-Chess - maybe you can delete that one somehow, or redirect games to Fibnif Lancers Chess from Lancer-Chess (I guess no one has played a game log using either preset as yet, though).
Okay, the Lancer Chess preset is removed.
@ Fergus
No, the Lancer-Chess Settings File is still on my Settings Files list page. edit: However, the default chess diagram is now showing when I click on its link.
@ Fergus:
I edited my last post, in case you missed it.
Okay, it should be deleted now. I've also added a warning message to indicate when a settings file cannot be found.
Okay, it's no longer on my Settings File list.
Also, I once made a 4*Chess Settings File by mistake and then someone (you or me) redirected it to a 4*Chess (Four Dimensional Chess) Settings File of mine. There were no games played as far as I know with the 4*Chess preset - it could possibly be deleted, or it could just be left existing the way it is, I suppose.
[edit: asterisk characters were left out between 4 and Chess in this comment, for some reason.
in markdown, surrounding text with asterisks makes it italics. I've "escaped" them with backslashes. --Ben]
I didn't redirect your settings file. I imagine you did it. If you want the redirected one deleted, let me know.
Okay please delete it Fergus
Okay, I deleted it.
Thanks
