Thanks for the head's up on the time.  A few hours out is fine.  So long
as this helps the whole Database unavailable messages, then this is good
news.

Forms are currently not working! I will be getting them to work this
afternoon. Sorry about the delays...

I am reuploading the Game Courier logs with the old timestamps preserved,
so that the logs page can sort them by date. At the rate it's going, it
should continue into the night. Until then, Game Courier is dormant, so
that what I'm doing will not overwrite any new moves. Game Courier has
already been programmed to take off three days from any moves interrupted
by this move. I expect to have it up and running by tomorrow morning,
which is still within the three days from Monday at 10:00 AM.

David, Fergus, thank you for all your efforts here. The amount of enjoyment
this site has given to people over the years is incalculable.

My attempt to preserve the timestamps while uploading failed. I
successfully downloaded them with the old timestamps and have them on my
computer that way, but the old timestamps were not preserved when I
uploaded them. I will try again with a different program.

My failure was even worse than I first imagined. The 'keep timestamps in
sync' option that I used with FireFTP had the reverse effect that I
wanted, changing the timestamps of all the logs on my computer. Now I have
to start the whole thing over. So don't move the chessvariants.com domain
yet, David.

Since I have not been able to preserve the timestamps by ftp, I have
requested a backup of the old site, which I will then transfer to the new
site. This may wipe out any new comments and pages added since the move
began, but it should probably be faster than ftp, since it shouldn't have
to make an individual request to upload each file.

I had finished uploading the backup this morning, and it was busy restoring
the backup when I had to go to work. So I shut off my computer, not sure
whether it would have any effect on the restoration. From work, I have not
noticed any change in the timestamps. I will try again when I can, first
deleting the logs, then attempting the backup restoration again.

Game Courier is up and running again. I finally transferred the logs with
both the timestamps and the permissions intact. What actually worked took
much less time than all the deadends I tried. I got the files with their
original timestamps and permissions from a backup tar.gz file I downloaded
from the original site. I made a tar.gz file of the logs, uploaded it, and
extracted it to the play subdomain. I had to modify my scripts to read
form data. On the old site, form data was automatically translated into
variables in PHP scripts. On the new site, it is not done automatically,
and the script needs to handle it itself. In the end, it probably makes
scripts more secure. Finally, I have discounted four days from any move
interrupted by the move. You can now make moves in your games again
without any time lost.

Thanks for reporting that. Since it isn't my turn in any of my games, I
haven't tried to move yet. The path name for the new site differs
slightly from the old site, and I hadn't changed it in all the files that
use it. Try it again.

Tried to get into a game of Hammer Chess for the Pot Luck 1 tournament
between jejujeju and donutdonut and got this:

donutdonut had the same experience when trying to get into a PotLuck1 game
of racing kings vs jejujeju.

This message means that some other page is trying to refer to the file by the old path name. So what page is trying to refer to this file?

The URL I receive in my email takes me to the generic chess preset, but
going through game courier gives the game. URL for game is:

On the old site, PHP scripts automatically turned form data and URL data
assignments into variables, but on this site it is not doing that. I fixed
Game Courier to read URL data assignments last night, but what I did does
not work for encoded URLs. I am working late tonight, but I can fix it
after I get home.

Fergus, thank you, but please take your time - we have access through the
game logs page. That's good enough for now.

The urlencoded URLs sent in Game Courier emails are now working with Game
Courier.

after working for at least one move in each game, now jeju vs donut games,
