We need some thematic Tournaments, and it can be a normal and continuous
activity in this site. I believe there are many interested people. I
suggest that some Tournaments can be inscription-free, and prizes can be
symbolic, there is not the need of monetary or gift prizes, except for the
annual Game Courier Tournament, if majority agree. It should be good a
Shogi and variants Tournament, with Shogi and, perhaps, a couple or three
variants added. Or an Oriental Variants Tournament, including Shogi,
Xiang-Qi, Makruk and a couple of variants more. It can be evaluated the
interest in a Little Boards Tournament, or in Ultima and variants
Tournament, or in Decimal variants Tournament. It can be thought a
particular variant Tournament too (by example: Grand-Chess, Marsellais,
CWDA or Extinction, between many others). Why it has not been considered?.
It would be good!.

how about tournaments involving games by a certain inventor, say a gifford
or lavieri or duniho tournament etc. (several other names come to mind
too) there seem to be a few inventors with enough good games to make this
entertaining.

Or we could have a tournament featuring the games from the 10-CV contest
(not all of them, of course, as there are 32...)

As the current potluck tournament [2008] starts its second and final round,
and nothing else in the way of tournaments [or contests] is going on right
now, it's a good time to ask people about what they want for the next
tournaments.
I'm not ready to organize GCT#4, but someone else may be. Also I've had
people ask about when the next potluck tournament is, and I've had a
suggestion we could do a 3D potluck. Other messages indicate some interest
in a themed tournament of some sort. I'd be happy to hear some tournament
ideas from members, and a time frame.
Finally, I'd like to seriously propose a 'speed email tournament
format', with all games starting at the beginning of the tourney, and all
players getting 4 months of reserve time. There would be no way to add time
to your clock; you can only stop its running by making your move, and
letting time pass on your opponents' 4 months of reserve. So, if we
started this tournament March 1, we'd be guaranteed the very longest
games would be over by the end of Halloween, October 31, 8 months later.
