I am currently working on testing a corrected Hostage Chess preset I have written. Until I can get home and work on the code itself, I am posting the game I have been playing for safe-keeping. 25. P*f7 should have been recognized as a check, but it wasn't. 25... N-b; b*h4 is illegal for not getting the King out of check. 26. P f7-g8; B-g8 was not allowed because it said no B was imprisoned. But one is.

Since my brain is getting too tired to continue with this tonight, I'll report my progress here. I got it to recognize 25. P*f7 as check. This took editing the P function in the hostagechess2.txt include file, fixing the best2free function in polish.php, and removing code from the checked subroutine for doing what I now have the P function handling. Curiously, though, it allowed the illegal move 25... n e7-f5, which leaves the King in check.

With helpful feedback from John Leslie, the preset for Hostage Chess should now be enforcing the rules correctly. The previous Hostage Chess preset, no longer included on this page, allowed Pawns to drop on the first rank, it failed to handle Pawn checks on the last rank correctly, and it erred in a few other details.
