Modern drunk elephant shogi
In 16th century drops was added to shogi, but piece drunk elephant was removed. This variant uses both drops and drunk elephant. Note that similar game might already exist.
Setup
Same as in modern shogi, but there is 1 drunk elephant per side in front of each king.
Pieces
Same as in shogi. Drunk elephant moves like king, but not orthogonally backward. Promotes to crown prince. Crown prince have all king's moves and royal, see below.
Rules
Same as in modern shogi, including drops. To win, leave opponent without royal pieces ON BOARD (pieces in reserve don't count). King can be dropped as all other pieces. Theoretically, player may have up to 3 royal pieces (4th captured royal piece will finish game). Pawns may not be dropped in front of opponent's king so that this attack will not be able to escape. It's allowed to do this with crown prince.
