Rules
Kylatori Sunset is conducted by rules of FIDE Chess, except that:
-
You win by stalemating your opponent, forcing them to repeat an earlier
position, or ridding the board and your opponent's hand of all of their
pieces.
-
When a major piece (not a Trode or Ion) is captured, it turns into a
wreck and stays on the square where it was captured and does not
obstruct movement. If a major piece moves onto a square with a wreck
and a friendly Tron or an Ion are adjacent, the wrecked piece is
revived and either added to the moving piece so it can now move like
the wrecked piece in addition to way it moved before, or placed in the
hand of the moving player (salvager) to drop later.
-
The drop of a salvaged piece onto an empty square of the board
requires a move.
-
Two pieces of the same type except Trodes capture on co-squares after
moving. That is, they capture on squares that both pieces could move
to if they were Rooks that ignored all obstacles. If you move a piece
which you have 3 or more of then capture on co-squares with all
possible pairings of pieces. for example:
All of those black pieces will be captured if white moves a Pendant so that part of the board looks like this.R - p - p b - R - l - - - - - p - r - R
The Pieces
Pieces(letters in brackets indicate what letter is used when recording a move or a board, white first then black)Trode(Pp): moves and captures one square forward, captures by custodian (sandwiching one piece between two friendly pieces on a line) orthogonally or diagonally with other Trodes or Ions. Trodes may promote to an Ion, Pendant, Slasher or Hammer upon moving to the back rank. A Trode may jump a diagonally adjactant piece (in any of the four diagonal directions) to capture another piece directly beyond it. It may not leap without capturing.
Ion(Ll): moves one square orthogonally, captures by custodian orthogonally or diagonally with other Ions or Trodes. Drops a Trode in an empty adjacent square after moving.
Pendant(Rr): moves one square orthogonally or leaps two squares orthogonally or leaps two squares diagonally.
Slasher(Bb): moves one square diagonally or leaps as a Knight from FIDE Chess.
Hammer(Nn): leaps three squares orthogonally, then rotates 90 degrees left or right and moves one or two squares; or in other words, is a (3,1) plus (3,2) leaper (like the Fairy Chess Bison).
Howler(Qq): moves as Pendant or as Slasher. Only appears through combination with wrecked pieces.
Shell Gun(Mm) moves as Pendant or as Hammer. Only appears through combination with wrecked pieces.
Burst Gun(Cc) moves as Slasher or as Hammer. Only appears through combination with wrecked pieces.
Shredder(Aa) moves as Pendant, Slasher or Hammer. Only appears through combination with wrecked pieces.
Note
Warning: no play testing has been done here, try it at your own risk. Hopefully it should be playable.
