Total Chess
A type of three-dimensional chess which is played on four superimposed boards. A man can move to any square vertical to that which could be occupied normally, but may not move into or across the vertical position of a pawn. The men are initially arrayed on the lowest board. The game was created in 1946 by Charles Beaty.(An Illustrated Dictionary of Chess by Edward R. Brace, 1977 p. 289)
