Random Move Number Chess
The author's idea behind this game was to introduce the element of luck to chess making it similar to poker in some ways. Most of the time we ARE PLAYING REGULAR CHESS WITH THE OFFICIAL RULES. The only difference is
each player must throw a 6-sided dice to determine the outcome of his move.
If he gets a 1 then he misses his turn!
If he gets a 6 he moves twice! If he gets the same number as his previous throw (the move before) he moves twice!
If he gets the same number three times, he moves three times!
But if the throw meets none of these conditions, he just makes the usual move.
(He should however record the last die throw i.e. remember that he threw a 2 for example).
The opponent does the same thing and we have a very unusual game of chess that is now dependent on
both luck and skill!
Rules
The game of chess is played completely unaltered except for the use of a die (and paper and pencil to record each throw).-
The die is first thrown by each player to decide who plays white. The player with the higher number gets white.
The number is recorded by each player. If both players tie, then the die is thrown again by them.
Each time a die is thrown the number is recorded for each player- this is important! -
White makes the first move, black makes his next move.
(Nothing different at this point) -
Now taking into consideration the throw(s) at the beginning of the game (including the tie break throws), White throws the die and makes a move
depending on the following:
Die outcome Move Outcome 6 (no repeat) Move Twice 1 (no repeat) Forfeit Move to opponent. # repeats for same player.
(# is not a 6 or a 1)Move twice # repeats n times for same player.
(# is not a 6 or a 1)Move n times Special Number Repeats # 1 repeats twice 2 (for repeat) - 1 (miss 1 turn) =1
Moves once.#1 repeats n times n-1 moves # 6 repeats twice 2 (for repeat) +1 (for six)= 3 moves #6 repeats thrice # = 666. Switch sides and forfeit turn to opponent! #6 repeats n times where 3 < n < 6 n+1 moves #6 repeats 6 times! 666 Twice! Diablo! Game Over - You lost the game!
Thus, the player gets unlucky if 666 is thrown, requiring to switch sides and miss turn, but get a 6 again and he plays 5 moves!
Throwing 6 6 times and game is over though!
If player A has 3 moves to make but checks on his first move. He cannot make the other two moves.
The die must be thrown and recorded though.
In the unlikely case, this player threw 6 3 times he must switch sides, or he loses if he got 6 6 times.
Notes
This game is ideal between players with a huge disparity in chess skill, and those who prefer not to tax their brains at every turn.
The luck factor makes the game a lot more exciting (for some!), but as in poker the more skilled player has a higher chance of winning but can run unlucky and lose.
