Symmetric Monster Chess
Setup
As FIDE chess. However, there is eight additional squares named c0, d0, e0, f0, c9, d9, e9, f9. The c0, d0, e0, f0, contains white double-pawns. The c9, d9, e9, f9, contains black double-pawns. Each player also has one double-king initially off of the board.
Rules
FIDE chess except as following:
- No check/mate. Whoever has no legal moves loses.
- Castling is permitted out of, into, through check, due to the above.
- Promotion zone is still rank 8 for white and rank 1 for black, even though the extra squares.
- If your single-king is captured, you can no longer make any move with single-pieces.
- If your double-king is captured, you can no longer make any move with double-pieces.
- Double-pawn can make double step on your second rank (2 for white, 7 for black), but cannot be captured by en passan.
- Double-pawn is allowed to en passan capture a single-pawn.
- Double-pawn promotes to double-rook, double-knight, double-bishop, or double-queen.
- On your turn you can either make one move with single-pieces, or two moves with double-pieces (making only one move with double-pieces is not allowed).
- Turn moving with double-pieces, can be with same piece twice or with two different pieces; but it is not allowed to make a null move (a noncapturing nonpromoting move followed by moving it back to its original position).
- If you have not placed your double-king yet, you can place it as one part of your double-pieces move, onto any vacant space in the place where your double-pawns starts at.
- You also lose if you have neither single-king nor double-king on board, even if you have some legal moves, otherwise. (So, you must place the double-king when checkmated if you want to continue the game.)
