Rules

The Chief may only be taken by a Chief.

The game is won with the capture of the opponent's Chief or Princess.

Notes

The primary goal in the development of this particular form of play for Jetan was to maintain the same number of pieces from the square field. It was necessary to add both a Padwar and Flier to cover the additional diagonal pattern of the hexagonal field.

The movement of the pieces would be kept as close to the form of their square field counterparts. Though some restriction were necessary to increase the tactical and strategic quality of the hexagonal game.

One of the difficulties with extrapolating Jetan to the hexagonal field was the range of the Flier. With its footprint, it could be too powerful for an average-size field and need one that was larger than twelve-cell-sided. But fortunately the power of the Panthan on this field greatly aided in restricting its threat.

The piece were grouped in such a way as to not only take advantage of each diagonal pattern for the Padwars and Fliers but to place the Princess in a position where it was not directly vulnerable to a Flier threat.

Being invulnerable, the Chiefs were placed at the forefront of the setup. And no other piece starts on cells of the initial move pattern of the Chief and Princess.

The invulnerability of the Chief and its ability to take a Princess at a distance was developed in Iss Jetan. Both were to dramatically decrease the number of drawn games for which Jetan is famous. Though players might opt to allow the Chief capture by other pieces as a last resort. For example, a player unable to avoid the immediate capture of their Princess could take the opponent's Chief for a draw.
