Brickchucking Chess

Brickchucking Chess was invented in 1975 by Alan Holloway and Gary Smith. It appears in Pritchard's Encyclopedia.

Setup

Rules

The setup and pieces are as usual, but pieces cannot move backwards. They still give check and mate backwards. If a pawn is promoted, then the new piece reverses direction; it can now not move forward.

Notes

Making short moves gives you more flexibility for later. Sacrificing pieces to force the enemy king toward your camp may be worth it.

In addition to Ed Friedlander's Java applet (see the Related menu), a Zillions file is included in the package at Chess-with-different-periods.
