Chess with checkers added

Setup

Same as FIDE chess, but each player has eight checkers on their third row.

Pieces

Checkers pieces move like game of checkers, one space diagonal forward. To capture, you jump over opponent's piece and may continue to capture. If it reaches the end, you double it and it can now go forwards and backwards (although it stops jumping on the turn which it promotes).

Rules

Checkers must jump when possible, and if you jump then you must continue jumping as much as possible, but you are not obliged to make the longest possible series of captures. You can make a different move instead if the only way to jump would put you in check (or leave you in check).

Pawns do not promote to checkers.

Notes

I have played this game with my brother. Actually when we started playing chess one day, he put checkers on the board too as a joke but then we decided to play with the checkers added. We happened to both have the exact same ideas as to what the rules for this game should be, so we quickly agreed.
