The pieces starting along each side belong to a different player. The pieces marked lower case "p" are shared pawns.

Pieces

The pieces starting b2, i2, b9 and i9 are shared by the players whose pawn rows they are in. Each controlling player can on their turn move them like one of their pawns, except that they cannot capture away from the other controlling player's side. When a shared pawn is moved to either of the rows opposite its starting position,the moving player can chose what piece to promote it to. This piece will be shared in the same manner as the pawn was. A shared piece can be captured by either non-controlling player.

Rules

Rules are as in FIDE except where stated otherwhise.

Players can only capture the pieces of the players starting opposite them.

Normal rules of check do not apply.

Players win by capturing the king of the player opposite them.

The player who captures the king, wins, the player whose kng is captured, loses, the other two are equal second.

A draw is the same outcome as being equal second.
