Check out Janggi (Korean Chess), our featured variant for December, 2024.

Since Java is no longer supported in most browsers, our Java applets probably will not run unless you install an extension that will run them. We recommend installing the CheerpJ Applet Runner extension on Edge, Chrome, or another Chromium browser. If your browser still does support Java, and you're not using this extension, make sure this site is listed in your Java exceptions list. You should find this in the Security tab of your Java control panel.

Four-Handed Chess III

If you had a Java-capable browser, you could play Four-Handed Chess III here.

Four-Handed Chess III was supposedly a hit at Gen Con a few years back. Win by capturing the last king. Units belonging to a player in checkmate cannot be taken but will give check until the king is taken. I think that the latter can cause some contradictions but these are rare. If you are in checkmate or otherwise cannot move, then your turn passes. Capturing the king makes the starting squares vanish. I have all promotions as queens.
