Check out Atomic Chess, our featured variant for November, 2024.

Since Java is no longer supported in most browsers, our Java applets probably will not run unless you install an extension that will run them. We recommend installing the CheerpJ Applet Runner extension on Edge, Chrome, or another Chromium browser. If your browser still does support Java, and you're not using this extension, make sure this site is listed in your Java exceptions list. You should find this in the Security tab of your Java control panel.

Indigo and Azure are the Blue team. Maroon and Scarlet are the Red team.

This was a proprietary game. A variety of rules are offered. I followed the ideas from the account at www.chessvariants.org.

If you are in checkmate when your turn comes around, you simply remove your king. When the second king is checkmated, your side loses. You may NOT capture a unit from an allied army. You do not check the allied king. You may not move into check. If there is no legal move, skip the turn. All pawns promote to queens.
