I'm not shy about putting power pieces on a chessboard - look at the piece values in Lemurian/Atlantean Barroom and see if you'd be willing to play the FIDE/Grand Chess pieces against them. Linear distance traveled is not the only measure of power. Douglas Silfen has just posted 'Iron Guard' chess, where the white queen is replaced by an invulnerable [cannot be captured at all] guard piece.
