Opening reminds Cambodian chess: pawns captures in same way, and they are separated only with 1 rank and threated to be captured by other pawn on first move. But in Cambodian chess pawns can always be protected by knight, and here they can't. Of course, it's clever to move first pawn in front of rook or lance. And what if opponent's rook and lance are on same files? Of course, situations, where any move will sacrifice pawn are rare, but possible... How about playing on 5x9? I am not criticizing this game, 5x7 variant is probably actually more interesting.
