A Courier as a sealed letter is a bit weird for me. Although even in French a "courrier" can be understood as a "mail".
The word courier is I believe from German Kurier, and, well I don't speak German so I might be wrong, I believe it is more in the sense of "runner". Because in Middle Age a piece sliding on diagonals was perceived as a piece running fast. HG, is that true?
