Snappy Chess

The game requires a 9 x 9 board. The pieces change on ranks 3, 5 and 7 according to the rules described below.

Standard set of pieces - plus additional pieces.
pawn | steps one square straight ahead, or slides to the 2nd square straight ahead | |
rook | slides orthogonally | |
queen | slides in all 8 directions | |
archbishop | slides diagonally, or makes a knight's jump | |
chancellor | slides orthogonally, or makes a knight's jump | |
amazon | slides in all 8 directions, or makes a knight's jump | |
nightrider | repeatedly makes a knight's jump in the same direction | |
dragon horse | slides diagonally, or steps one square orthogonally | |
dragon king | slides orthogonally, or steps one square diagonally | |
cardinalrider | slides diagonally, or repeatedly makes a knight's jump in the same direction | |
chancellorrider | slides orthogonally, or repeatedly makes a knight's jump in the same direction | |
king | steps one square in all 8 directions, or castles by stepping 3 squares towards the pawn |
Rules
Except for the following changes, the Fide rules apply.
There is no capturing en passant, castling and promotion of pawns takes place.
Bare king loses.
Stalemate is a win.
