There are some Private Use Area code point encodings for Unicode compatible
chess fonts introduced and indexed at the
http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~ngo/golden.htm web page.
These code points are simply my own suggestions which are placed in the
Private Use Area which Unicode provides for private use.
However, if people making Unicode compatible chess fonts did choose to use
these code points for the various symbols then fonts would be interoperable
one with another and end users would be able easily to try out how a chess
diagram looks in various fonts without needing to reset the diagram.
The Quest text font which is available at the
http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~ngo/font7007.htm web page now has
included within it a number of sorts for producing chess diagrams. These
are located within the Private Use Area of the Unicode code space.
