Bob Greenwade's SVG Library

As an aficionado of fairy chess pieces, I've sometimes grown frustrated that most uncommon pieces -- and even some less-than-uncommmon pieces -- lack good icons to represent on a board, whether for simple illustrations, setup diagrams, Interactive Diagrams, Game Courier presets.

H. G. Muller's Diagram Editor with Scalable Graphics explicitly makes use of these icons, as an option.

These icons are my attempt at providing as close to universal possibilities as I can. I've set out to cover as much as I could, and most of what's missing can be built by compounding two icons together (that has to be done manually; see the instructions on the Diagram Editor page). Most of the Modifier icons at the bottom are specifically for this purpose; a Modifier can go either behind or in front of the main piece, depending on which you think looks better. Some of the Modifiers can even be used on their own. (See more below.)

Whereas my Courier is ZXNX (a fifth-radius mover that's just off the Bishop and Rook lines). With a Knight (NZXNX) it becomes a Messenger; make that into a Rider (NNZX0NX0) and it becomes a Messagerider aka Pony Express.

Oh, sorry, I'm using for yafodaubBcB. It's a bishop that must move the farthest distance in whichever direction it goes, which seems to fit with a running name.

Correct! The envelope will be in the Modifiers section; put it behind a Knight for (my version of) a Courier, or behind a Knightrider for a Pony Express. And I'm sure there are other applications as well (like, combine it with a Minister for a Postmaster General).

Edit: All of the new ones, except Two-Thirds, went into Modifiers (the other new ones are Anarchy, Crutch, Maple Leaf, and Wine Glass).
