Xiongqi

Xiongqi (Chinese: 熊棋; pinyin: xióngqí) is a strategy board game derived from Xiangqi, the Chinese form of Chess.

Setup

Xiongqi starting setup

Rules

Xiongqi has only two differences from Xiangqi:

Bears slide any distance diagonally to move and capture. They may not jump over intervening pieces. The bear is sometimes known as the bishop by English-speaking players, since it is the same as the bishop in Western Chess.

Since there is no river, soldiers may also move and capture one point horizontally just like the soldier in Janggi chess.
